Real Leather for Real Miles: The Naang Boots Hide Guide
Listen, we’ve all been burned by boots that look like the real deal in a filtered photo but feel like stiff cardboard, or worse, flimsy sneakers, the moment you actually hit the pavement. At Naang Boots, we aren’t interested in fast fashion or cutting corners. We’re building gear for the long haul, the dirt paths, and the occasional roadside breakdown.
That starts with the skin. We don’t just buy whatever is sitting on a pallet; we’ve spent years working with local Thai tanneries to develop leather that’s as tough as they come.
Our boots are hand made every step of the way from quality leather we have sourced from the best tanneries in Thailand. Not just our uppers, but the insoles, the mid soles, the toe puff and heel counter, even our leather shanks are sourced specifically for the qualities they offer.
Our Approach
The Uppers: Dual-Tanned Dominance
Most boots make you choose: the soft, immediate comfort of chrome-tanned leather or the rugged, patina-ready durability of vegetable-tanned leather. We have worked out a middle ground.
All of our uppers are crafted from dual-tanned leather. We worked side-by-side with our local tannery right here in Thailand to perfect this recipe.
The Process: These hides are chrome-tan and then finished in a traditional veg-tan vat. You get the weather resistance and break-in-ability of chrome-tan, with the structural integrity and gorgeous aging process of veg-tan.
The Weight: We don't do thin, these aren’t dress boots. Our uppers clock in at 2.5mm to 3mm thick. It’s beefy enough to protect your ankles during a motorcycle slide or a rocky scramble, but supple enough to mold to your unique foot over time.
The Foundation: 5mm of Pure Support
While everyone else is stuffing their boots with plastic shanks and foam fillers, we’re going old school. The guts of a Naang boot are what truly separate us from the pack.
We use extra-thick vegetable-tanned leather for our:
Insoles
Midsoles
Leather Shanks
We’re talking a massive 5mm thickness. Why? Because your feet deserve a foundation, not a compromise. This heavyweight leather offers a Goldilocks balance: it’s stiff enough to provide rock-solid support for urban exploring or hiking, yet flexible enough to allow for the natural, anatomical movement of your foot.
Over time, these internal layers compress and shape to your foot, creating a custom fit that no "memory foam" insert could ever dream of achieving.
